God is So Good

God is So Good is one of my students’ favorite songs to sing as a part of Jesus Time, Chapel, or Closing Chapel. You can tell by how loudly they yell “Yes, He Is!” at the end of each line of the song, even when those aren’t necessarily the “right” lyrics.

Normally by a Saturday evening at this time, I’m in my jammies, sitting on the couch watching Netflix. Don’t get me wrong, that is an accurate description of what I’m doing. However, it’s all the other things that have happened today that make me be reminded of how truly good God is.

This weekend (Friday + Saturday) I attended the Minnesota Early Childhood Educators Conference at Concordia, St. Paul! I was pretty excited about the conference since I read the brochure with the session descriptions and because I knew my old practicum teachers/coworkers would be there as they helped lead sessions, worked on event staff, and attend sessions. I also got a day from the kiddos on Friday to attend. As the sessions came to an ended today, I took some time to reflect on all of the amazing information I received. Like wow, we as educators are entrusted with such a huge and overwhelming task, but God enables us to do it all for His glory and honor. WOW! It’s just still so shocking to me that I get to be a part of the development of so many humans, in their faith, in their emotional life, in their social skills, in EVERYTHING. While parents are obviously the number one influence in a child’s life, it’s so wonderful to be a part of a collaboration and team to help those kids grow.

On my way home from the conference I was also reflecting on the importance of making sure I care for myself to be able to care for these kids. So, I’m going to try to start working out and getting healthy again. College was like a million tries to get back into shape from high school and a million fails as well. Either way, I’m going to put effort into it again. I ran for just over a mile and felt great after!

Tonight I also used my new birthday pan from my parents to make banana bread with some bananas that were getting old. It just finished and tastes so good.

I don’t know if it’s just the fact that I had a wonderful time at the conference or if it’s that our apartment is on the cleaner side, I’m just so thankful God has blessed me this weekend with so many reminders of His love.

So here’s to a wonderful next week with many more of God’s blessings so obviously in my life!

Summer So Far

Well, I thought for sure with summer being here I would jump back into blogging frequently and about actually interesting topics. Unfortunately that has yet to happen.

So what have I been up to?

Not much. I am working at the childcare center I did my practicum at this last semester. I work about 25ish hours a week there with the greatest kids ever. Seriously. I love my job. When I’m not working there I am generally at home with my love. We have been doing some video gigs, so Trevor always has plenty to be working on. I also am working about once a week at Noodles & Company, still not loving it but I’ll take the extra money..

I also have begun embroidering. I actually started during this last semester, but life kind of got busy and I never got around to mentioning it. So, now’s as good of a time as ever I guess! I started an Etsy  shop: BlissfulFiberArt. I have a couple of different hoops for sale up there – and finally landed my first sale last weekend!

All in all, it’s been rather calm here other than balancing schedules.

Hopefully I start doing things that will be exciting to share…

Homecoming 2015

This past weekend Concordia celebrated Homecoming!

I am so thankful I asked for the day off from work to spend some time with my friends and have some fun. It was a blast!

Concordia throws this awesome carnival that starts toward the end of the Homecoming football game. So Sarah and I went to watch football during the second quarter. Eventually Katrina joined us and we headed to the carnival area.

With your student ID if you’re a current student, you get in for free! So it’s free rides + food + petting zoo! It was a blast! I can only imagine how many calories I consumed… Seriously, I ate a lot.

These ladies are the best.

Square One

Well this morning I officially got the dreaded email from Anthropologie informing that I didn’t get the job.

It sucks. I felt so great coming out of that interview and it’s kind of upsetting that they didn’t even have the courtesy to talk to me over the phone about not getting the job.

Now I start over. I have applied at two Caribous and a Starbucks near our apartment. I’m hoping over the next few days I get a call from one of them and I can interview.

I really need to get out of Noodles. It is such a toxic environment there, and I honestly dread my weekends because I know I have to work there. I know that Trevor and I need the money, so I need to be working more than the 11.25 hours a week I get at my office job, but it sucks knowing that I’m still stuck at Noodles. They’ve drained me so much – it’s exhausting just thinking of working tomorrow.

Anthro, Noodles, + Peanuts, OH MY!

What a crazy busy week I’ve had. Yes, I know it’s Tuesday – but really. I’ve been busy.

Yesterday I had an interview at Anthropologie! I am so excited at just the thought of working there, so I’ve been watching my phone like a hawk-hoping I get the call and that I get the job. *fingers crossed* I’m just so done at Noodles. I have pretty limited availability, so they give me all my hours over the weekend. It’s going to be the death of me, I swear.

On that note-I’m back to wearing my knee brace. I hate wearing this thing. Everybody asks “what’s wrong” and I have to tell them it’s due to an injury back in high school. I just wish I had normal knees. Working 20+ hours over 3 days at Noodles has brought a lot of actual pain into my life now, just another reason I need to get out.

My plan for if I don’t get the Anthropologie job is to apply at Starbucks and Caribou, since there are a few within blocks of my apartment. I’ve heard so many good things about working in coffee shops- plus I wouldn’t mind a discount on coffee. I also feel like it’s a rite of passage of a young adult to be a barista, but maybe that’s just my thinking. I’m making up excuses for any and every job opening that is other than at Noodles.

One more area to complain about at Noodles: there are so few employees that I had to work while I was sick on Sunday. I was nauseous all day – and no one was able to cover for me. In addition to that I had a limp because of my knee. I must have looked like hell. Due to working through my illness on Sunday, I skipped my morning class on Monday, which I was hoping to never have to do. It’s my only class that meets three times a week, and I hate going into the next class unprepared. So hopefully tomorrow goes well. :/

Now that I’ve gotten all of my complaining out of the way, here’s a way to brighten your day! The new Peanuts movie is coming out soon and they have a website set up where you can make yourself into a Peanuts character! How cool is that?! Check it out – here.

This is what I look like! Isn’t it adorable?
