Spectacular Monday

Wow – I am one awful blogger right now.

It’s officially our wedding week! I woke up this morning invigorated and motivated to take on everything today has to offer. That rarely happens, especially on a Monday! But in less than a week you can call me Mrs. Rodriguez, so I’m kinda pumped.

So what have I finished on this spectacular Monday?

Last night I got the basics to our chalkboard program done, so this morning I finished it. It’s looking mighty fine!

I also did the “wedding itinerary” sign. It’s not quite finished, but I’ll finish it either later tonight or tomorrow.

I made my weekly stop at Hobby Lobby, too! The other night I was talking with my mom and we decided we wanted to add ribbon to the mason jars. So I ventured over to Hob Lob today to make that purchase. I also bought a miniature chalkboard and some super stellar chalk pencils!

Once I got home I wrote on the miniature chalkboard, “Do you Instagram? Use the hashtag: #adventuresoftande”. So if you’re bored next weekend, search the # and see what’s up in my life!

On the agenda for the rest of today? Trevor and I have a meeting with our photographer to sign some paperwork and to pay her. I also have to develop the weekend timeline. In addition to that, I have a few more escort cards to finish and stickers to put on the jellies!

Like I said, it’s wedding week – so I probably won’t be blogging too much. I have an incredibly long to-do list, but I’ll try to get another post out to you all later in the week to tell you a little bit about my bachelorette party (which is tomorrow)!

What’s Up

“What’s Up?”

The classic second text from someone, after they acknowledge your greeting.

Often, I just respond with something along the lines of, “not much,” or, “just chillin.” However, lately, it’s been more along the lines of, “just avoiding packing,” or, “trying to not be too stressed.”

Life catches up with you sometimes. Those times are when you miss the, “not much,” “just chillin,” moments of your life.

I’m definitely not saying that every little ounce of stress is bad though. I think stress can be great. It’s a terrific motivator, for one. But it’s when the stress takes over your entire life, that the issues pop up.

I have had tremendous issues with that in the past, but I’m working on it. I actually think that planning the wedding has been a lot of help. I’ve had this overbearing, constant stress with the millions of things to do, so I have had to work on dealing with a continual amount of stress. In the past, this would have meant a lot of dark and hard nights to work through.

But I’ve gotten a lot better at how I handle my stress now. I vent on here. I go take pictures. I go on walks. I work. I talk with Trevor about it. I no longer turn to a blade to deal with the stress.

At the beginning of the wedding planning process, I knew I would be taking on a lot of stress. I realized that going to school, working, and planning a wedding would be quite the challenge for me. And don’t get me wrong, it has been. But I made a promise to myself last August, that I wasn’t going to have any new scars on my wedding day. There have only been two days since that promise that I have broken down and cut myself. Both times, I felt more regret than ever from those decisions. I think a big contribution to that was that I knew I was not only hurting myself, but Trevor too. It’s a crazy thing – to be loved.

Love makes you do some strange things. In some cases, they can be negative. But in my case, it was beyond a positive thing. Trevor has helped me through so much, some of which I don’t even think he realizes.

So that’s what’s up. I’m being grateful for better stress management and for an awesome guy in my life to help me through it all.

Let me know what’s up with you….

Engagement Pictures

Trevor and I decided after we got engaged that we were going to do our own engagement pictures. This was due to our very specific style in edited pictures as well as to save some money. So we went out on two separate occasions to take pictures. The first occasion was a bit of a fail, but we had fun in Saint Paul goofing off. The second time, we brought a friend along to press the shutter button. These are the two keepsakes from the hours of attempts.

However, we ended up booking our wedding photographer and she said that she includes a complimentary engagement photo session with her pricing. So we recently decided to actually have those done. Here are some of our favorites:

I hope you like the pictures – I think they’re great! Thank you so much Caitlin Peterson Photography!

Now Trevor + I are off to another session of premarital counseling….Only 16 days!

So I’m super good at being pessimistic and hating my life. Ask anyone who’s spent more than a week’s time with me.

I’ve recently set a goal to be less in that mindset.

So how’s that going?

Well if you’ve read my last few blog posts, you’ll note that it’s not going very well. I am such a pro at finding anything to complain about. But there’s so much to be thankful for!

So I decided this post will be dedicated to listing what I am thankful for in my life:

  • My job
    • A lot of times I complain about hating my nanny job. It’s been incredibly stressful this last week. But alone time with those kiddos makes me more insightful about life. I also complain a lot about working in the food industry. However today I was reminded how awesome it is to work at Pizza Ranch. I worked my 6 hour shift with Trevor (which is always a blessing), I made nearly $80 in tips, and the GMs gave Trevor and me two full event Lifest tickets! Pizza Ranch has been such a blessing in my life.
  • My family
    • My parents have been down in Guatemala on a mission trip the past week and a half. So Katherine and I have been on our own. I have been enjoying my freedom, however, I’m also so much more aware of my dependence on my parents over the summer when they leave. I often go on and on about how much my parents bother me and have stupid expectations – but I know they have good intentions.
  • Technology
    • Trevor sat on his phone today and cracked his iPhone 6’s screen. I’m thankful to have a phone and many other technological elements in my life. Even though some are quite outdated and not as nice as I’d love – I still have them and I shouldn’t take that for granted.
  • Trevor
    • I seldom complain about Trevor (on here anyway). However, I know I can get pretty selfish about spending time with him. So he’s on this list because of all of the times I may have made him feel guilty for spending time with his friends or for his alone time. I just can’t get enough of this guy!
  • Transportation
    • Yesterday, Trevor and I drove to Saint Paul and back to do a few apartment showings (I’ll tell you more about those later). I am so thankful that he has a car and we were able to make a trip like that. Cars are one of those everyday “necessities” that I’m really good at taking advantage of… This past year in Saint Paul kind of humbled me of that though. Walking to work for nearly every shift and taking public transportation to get to Trevor’s puts things into perspective a bit.

I’m sure I could extend this list tenfold, but these were some things that particularly hit me in the face today on my drive home from work.

Life is pretty awesome when you take a deeper look. I highly suggest you look at your own life and realize what you have to be thankful for.

Birthday Recap

What an amazing weekend!

I am so blessed to have such an awesome fiance and to have been able to celebrate his birthday with him! So here’s what all happened on Trevor’s “crazy” 21st birthday!

His day started off with a surprise breakfast made by me! I woke him up with the traditional saying “Wakey-wakey! Eggs and bacy!” So I did just that, I woke him up with fresh eggs and bacon. I wish I would have taken a picture of him getting his food, because it was precious how surprised he was to receive a fresh breakfast in bed on his birthday!

After breakfast, I gave him his card and presents. I made his homemade-and I am quite proud.

Trevor’s Birthday Card

Trevor was quite the fanatic of Left Shark from the Super Bowl. Originally I was going to incorporate it into his gift, but forgot until it came time to make his card.

For the rest of his actual gift, I splurged. I bought him a nice Teakwood candle from Target. I could not find the exact one-but I am about 95% sure it is the same brand/style as this one: here. I also got him an absolutely amazing watch. He has had his eye on various watches, but wanted to find the perfect one. He decided MVMT carried his #1 pick. It was so hard to keep it a surprise from him, I knew he would love it. I couldn’t help but splurge a bit on him. See it: here. Honestly, it looks so beautiful online, but it is even more so in person! I love seeing how joyful he is when he puts it on and is wearing it.

After presents, Trevor recorded with his friend, Justin who was in town from Eau Claire for the weekend. We then headed to “lunch” (it was almost 2) at Culvers. I enjoyed a grilled chicken sandwich and a turtle sundae there. Around 4 we journeyed to Mall of America to find some wedding attire for Trevor, Justin, and Christian. It took longer than we expected and there were a few kinks in our original plan, but it all worked out (hallelujah)! I also found a headband I will wear for the wedding while we were there! I absolutely love Francesca’s, but normally cannot allow myself to spend so much on things as they are rather expensive. But hey, it was perfect and it’s for my wedding-so why not?! Take a look at it: here.

After a long day at MOA, we booked it to Mystic Lake Casino. In Minnesota, you only have to be 18 to go to the casino, otherwise I would not have been able to go in-like in Wisconsin where you have to be 21. I went in with $20. At one of the slots machines, I was at about $16 and figured I would be walking away with nothing, but I hit three “k”s which meant I got 10 free spins! The machine auto spun for me 10 times. By the end of my turn my ticket printed out at about $113! That was my highlight of the night-and I was the big winner of our group. It was a blast! While we were there, Trevor also had his first legal drink. He had a Summer Shandy (which he didn’t even finish…).

Trevor turns 21!

What a crazy awesome weekend. Despite not getting much sleep-I feel much more relaxed going into this week. Now to get over these awful allergies!
